Exciting news for gamers who loved the original Alone in the Dark game: the remake is coming out on October 2023. And for fans of David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow, We Have a Ghost) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy), the game is going to be even more fun!
According to Polygon, David Harbour and Jodie Comer will play the game’s central characters. Players will be able to choose between playing Emily Hartwood (Jodie Comer’s role) or Edward Carnby (David Harbour’s role). Like in the original game, they will try to solve the mysteries of Derceto Manor, a haunted mansion owned by Emily’s late uncle Jeremy Hartwood, who died by suicide while working on the mansion.
About the Game
Alone in the Dark was released in 1992.
Later versions included:
Jack in the Dark
Alone in the Dark 2
Alone in the Dark 3
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Alone in the Dark (2008)
Alone in the Dark: Illumination
The original PC game is considered to be one of the first survival horror genre games–maybe even THE first one.
The stories in the first game are inspired by the science fiction/horror writing of H.P. Lovecraft, although later games took on different themes (the Wild West, voodoo, and stories by H.R. Giger).
In addition to the games, there have already been other pieces of media in the Alone in the Dark universe: 2 comic books and 2 movies.
In the first movie, Alone in the Dark, Christian Slater played Carnby. The movie came out in 2005 and was critically panned and disliked by audiences. It only has 2.4 stars out of 10 on iMDB. The sequel didn’t do any better–I’m somewhat surprised it even got a sequel! Alone in the Dark 2 came out in 2008 and starred Rick Yune as Carnby. It has a 2.6/10 on iMDB.
